Stuff This in Yer Face! Compilation Release Party

On November 17, 2018, Cocotazo Media (cocotazomedia.com) and You Don’t Know Jersey (youdontknowjersey.com) will host a performance for the release of Stuff This in Yer Face!,  a benefit compilation supporting the Human Needs Pantry in Montclair. This benefit show will feature Aquino, Larée Cisco, Deivito, Sonofdov, Dave Kleiner & Liz Pagan (of the Folk Project), Kevin & Oliver Liebkemann, David Rieth, Deena & Jon (of the band The Cucumbers). The album is a culmination of several years of songwriting challenges. In 2015, New Jersey musicians were given one month to write and record a Thanksgiving song based on a theme. The creations were released on the website You Don’t Know Jersey in time for Thanksgiving and has become an annual event. The benefit compilation will feature reworked versions of a selection of the songs from the challenges. Proceeds from the album and performance will benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair. Since 1982 their mission is to offer, “…food, clothing, and other services to people in need who live in Montclair and neighboring communities in Essex County.”

The benefit performance will be held on November 17 at Stosh’s located at 18-15 Maple Ave. in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The show will be free but monetary donations will be accepted. A limited run of CDs will be available for sale, and all proceeds will go to the Human Needs Pantry of Montclair. The show will begin at 7 pm. Stuff This in Yer Face! will be released on November 16 by Cocotazo Media, and You Don’t Know Jersey and will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and on other music purchasing or streaming sites.

Cocotazo Media produces creative audio, highlighting music and audio fiction by independent artists of all backgrounds. You Don’t Know Jersey explores New Jersey, covering the arts, entertainment, food, sports, and travel - dispelling rumors and misconceptions - showing what the Garden State is all about. For more information on the Stuff This in Yer Face! compilation or benefit performance, please visit cocotazomedia.com or youdontknowjersey.com.

City Stars - Album Release

City Stars Release PosterUPDATE.jpg

City Stars, the second album by New Jersey native Aquino, will be released on October 13 by Cocotazo Music. City Stars follows his 2015 release Giants Will Fall. The Montclair Times called Giants Will Fall, “…a wide range of sounds, textures and a relentless creative streak,” while You Don’t Know Jersey said, “There is a connectivity running through the songs that is held together by excellent musicianship and Aquino’s emotional and honest delivery.”

In City Stars, Aquino explores themes of growing up Latinx in an urban center of northern New Jersey. “I drew upon different characters—or ‘stars’—I’d met in my youth and their fascinating stories. Most of the songs reflect on their passions and missteps, and the trajectory on which it set them. The opening track, ‘Milly,’ explores a young Latina on the brink of womanhood who makes a life-altering choice. The title track follows two young lovers and their desire to see past the light pollution of the city. The last song, ‘We All Dance Like Fire’—a reflection on who I’ve become since moving away from the city—is dedicated to my wife.” The new songs were recorded in New Jersey and engineered by Jim Killgore in Ontario, Canada. The album was recorded over the span of a year with the help of some of New Jersey’s best independent musicians.

To celebrate the release of City Stars, Aquino will host an album release party at the Bloomfield Public Library’s Little Theatre on October 14. The event will begin at 2:00pm. Larée Cisco will perform an opening set. Admission is$10/person. Proceeds will be donated to the ConPRmetidos Hurricane María and Irma Recovery Fund. ConPRmetidos is an organization, “connecting people in order to foster commitment with the personal, social and economic development of Puerto Rican communities wherever they are.”
